COURSE DESCRIPTION:
To help you achieve course objectives, the PALS Class includes practice learning stations and a Megacode testing station. The practice learning stations provide the opportunity to participate in a variety of learning activities, including:
> Simulated clinical scenarios
> Demonstrations by instructors or videos
> Discussion and role-playing
> Practicing effective resuscitation team member and leader behaviors
In these learning stations you will practice essentials skills both individually and as part of a team. This course emphasizes effective team skills as a vital part of the resuscitative effort. You will receive training in effective team behaviors and have the opportunity to practice as a team member and a team leader.
At the end of the course, you will participate in a Megacode Testing station to validate your achievement in the course objectives. Simulated arrest scenarios will asses the following:
> Demonstration of core case materials, skills, and resuscitation techniques
> Implementation of various algorithms
> Demonstrate ability to interpret cardiac arrhythmias
> Use of appropriate PALS drug therapy
> Perform behaviors of an effective team member and leader
OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
> Recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate the outcomes following resuscitation.
> Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, include prioritizing chest compressions and integrating AED use.
> Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care to another area.
> Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and identify the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Tampa General Hospital staff RNs, ARNPs, LPNs, PAs, Pharmacists, Respiratory Therapists, EMTs, and Paramedics who may potentially respond to or participate in a pediatric resuscitation. THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR PHYSICIAN RESPONDERS.
