COURSE TITLE:
TGH Charge Nurse Course - 2009

TGH Staff:  PRIOR TO COURSE REGISTRATION or PARTICIPATION: Please discuss and confirm your class attendance with Nurse Manager.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will prepare experienced TGH RN's to function in the role of a clinical unit Charge Nurse. Material will include theory related to the role, responsibilities, and functions of the charge nurse. Content includes didactic presentations & real life examples.

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this program, experience nurses will:
> Foster a safe patient care clinical environment resulting in positive patient outcomes
> Identify opportunities to create more efficient patient flow process
> Use effective communication techniques including SBAR, Optivox, Patient Handoff, staff     assignments & delegation
> Demonstrate proficiency in all nursing informatics systems used in patient care delivery
> Maintains current validation with successful achievement in all hospital wide and unit specific competency assessments and safety checklists

TARGET AUDIENCE:
TGH experienced RNs interested in becoming Charge Nurses.
