LSU Continuing Education, the LSU School of Architecture, and the American Institute of Architects, Baton Rouge Chapter, are pleased to announce this new course offering to address the continuing professional development needs of architects and design industry professionals. All courses qualify for continuing education units (CEUs) and continuing education learning unit hours (LUs), to maintain your license.
Sustainable Design Practice for High Performance Buildings is designed to augment technical expertise in the design, construction and operation of high performance buildings that incorporate energy efficient design principles and practices. The course includes an introduction to the evolution of green building rating systems and provides an overview of national and regional assessment methods, rating systems and guidelines for sustainable design and best practice in the United States and Canada. Assessment methods and rating systems introduced in this course include:- Green Building Initiative (GBI) Green Globes.
- National Institute of Building Science (NIBS) Whole Building Design Guide.
- Greening Federal Facilities Guide.
- With special focus on the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™).
Mastering course content will assist participants in preparing for the LEED™ Professional Accreditation Exam administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in association with the USGBC. The course includes a weekly formal presentation of course materials based on the course textbook, followed by in-class problem solving, pre and post testing, case studies and discussion.
This course is approved for 16 total Learning Units (LUs) and pending approval for 8 of the total units to qualify for HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) continuing education learning units (LUs) for AIA CES.
Instructor:
Marsha R. Cuddeback, AIA, is a founding partner of Desmond Cuddeback Architects, Baton Rouge, established in 1992, most noted for the award winning project, Bluebonnet Swamp Exhibition Center. Marsha has been a faculty member in the LSU School of Architecture since 1999 and is co-founder and director of Communityworks, LSU’s Office of Community Design and Development, an interdisciplinary community outreach center serving nonprofit organizations and communities in need throughout Louisiana. She is a registered architect in Louisiana, NCARB certified and a member of the American Institute of Architects. She serves as Louisiana’s State Intern Development Program Coordinator, and is a member of the Society of Building Science Educators and the USGBC Louisiana Chapter. In 2007 Marsha developed and taught the first credit bearing LEED structured course in the LSU School of Architecture, Sustainable Design through LEED.
