COURSE TITLE:
Preceptor Workshop - Nursing  2009

TGH Staff:  PRIOR TO COURSE REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION:  Please confirm your class attendanced with Supervisor, Manager, Director, or VP.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed to assist Clinical Nurse Preceptors in performing their role with the orientee who is new to the hospital and Nursing Clinical unit or the nursing student who is affiliated with an academic institution.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Preceptor Course Pre-requisits for December, 2009 classes. Must be currently in the Preceptor role and have not taken a preceptor course and an endorsement from Nurse Manager.

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this program, the participant will be able to:
>Discuss the preceptor role including essential expectations and responsibilities
>Apply theories of adult learning while performing the preceptor role
>Identify the primary roles and responsibilities of the preceptor
>Apply the principles of giving feedback
      >Practice giving feedback and evaluations in the classroom setting
      >Implement your role in validating competency
>Utilize the Competency Based Orientation (CBO) tool to document validation
>Analyze accountability and liability in the preceptor's role
>Utilize the guidelines of a precepting module to deliver effective instruction

TGH Clinical Nursing Staff functioning as essential preceptors
